A Few of my Favorite Things
I am so excited about Christmas! It is my favorite holiday, my favorite day and my favorite time of the year. I keep thinking of that song, “My Favorite Things.” I know it’s not really a Christmas song, but over the years, it has been adopted as a one. Anyway, I figured I should share some of my favorite things.
Cold Weather:
There is nothing like a cold night, a cozy blanket and a cup of coffee or cocoa. I truly love that icy blast when I open my door in the morning to take my dog out. And the smell! Yes, cold weather has a smell. It’s fresh, with a tinge of smoke from fireplaces. It’s almost invigorating. Let’s not forget cold weather fashions! Scarves, boots, sweaters… face it, it’s hard to be unattractive with all the bundling and winter accessories *wink*.
Christmas Movies:
ABC Family/Freeform does the 25 Days of Christmas movie schedule. Every night they show a Christmas movie and it feels like a countdown for me. Christmas movies just make up such a huge part of winter traditions in my home. Who doesn’t love the classics like: Home Alone, A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, and just about every Disney Christmas movie ever created? It’s very nostalgic to just sit and watch these movies and share my childhood memories with my children. There is something very special about sitting together, as a family, and watching Christmas magic unfold on the television.
Food/Snacks:
So full disclosure, I love eating. I don’t need a special occasion to eat. I will concede that winter food is definitely something to celebrate, though. Let’s talk smells. Sweet vanilla, warm cinnamon and nutmeg, rich chocolate, savory ham or turkey and so much more! Cookies and candies are a must and pies are most assuredly VIP dinner guests. It’s so natural to me, the snacking all month long as Christmas makes its approach. A decadent spread of food that is too rich for the rest of the year, but feels just right at Christmas, is definitely a major favorite of mine.
Parties:
What are the holidays without parties? Parties bring all of the people you love gathered in one place, making memories together. There is so much joy and cheer that fills the heart as you make jokes and sing carols and nosh. Life is so busy and hectic, but when those parties pop up, it seems like just the other day you had lunch together. Parties not only celebrate the season; they celebrate relationships too.
What are some of your holiday favorites?
Gleefully Gifting,
Paula
I also love holiday foods. My favorite is my Mom and Dad’s homemade fudge
Ooooh fudge!!! Yes, I second this! Happy Holidays!
